situations

Perhaps today Talebs word sligthly resound considering the situation I am now in...Situation sounds so negative; hardly so yet perhaps neither positive.

Waiting at Heathrow to catch my plane back home after having spent this week in London. I'm curious to live the "big city life" yet not sure I want to. The problem, as my boss correctly states, is not a lack of choice but the risk of making a wrong decision. Perhaps enslaved already?

Indeed, yet how to compare one with the other if there are an infinite amount of thinkable options abound? It would similar to determining risk through stock correlation under the model that each affects every other. Maybe similar to effiecient market theory I should focus on the few which are real (and sensible) and throw away those which are not. Fact is that I wont be back-packing through China any time soon, skippering a boat around South East Asia or find the to doodle in my beloved hostel in San Diego. *Melissa, I'm sure u remember that one*

Long and trusted good friend Brian Goodwin seems to think that any move, in particlar one that throws you from the warm of a comfort zone into the riveting current of the unknown, is worth trying. His development is more personal than career. Just like we are tought maths at school, so does he want to learn about relationships, inter personal communication, NLP or related.

After having read Roger McNamee viewes on "The New Normal", I found reason to agree with the authors views of "the new world". There is a "new normal" way to life, different from what it was 50 years ago and certainly not clearly defined. This "normality" is a life that constantly changes, is intertwined with work and play, social and private, home and away. We must therefore embrace other means to keep in contact, find time for ourselves (like this blog) and means to achieve. He promotes technology as the single biggest enabler, supported by greater understanding of our environments, the ability to travel with ease and clearly communicate (across mediums) at all times. Thus, as I reverted to my boss, it seems im trying to have my cake and eat it.

Perhpas it is isnt sustainable, but you'll see =)

The week gone by was fab, excellent meetings in London, some plans around connectivity supplied by BT Radienz and the great new Oracle based back office. Yet the days to come will be just as rush, with both suppliers getting ready to start.

In closing, the "new normal" is not just survival, it should be supported by some structured means of getting things done...and so between the Life of Pi by Martel, im going to start listening to Getting Things Done (1-8) by David Allen

nearly there

things have been a bit crazy lately. felix went to Cape Town over month end, our suppliers were giving problems and the invoicing had to be done. it was madness. in any case, it was obvious that my staff needed some guidance and firm instruction. we managed, but I seriously dislike being thrown in the deep end mandated to deal with issues I am very unfamilar with and then having to spend alot of time trying to resolve them! In any case, it went fine.

The reason I am sick now is in part because of the crazy week gone by, and obviously the diving trip to Ponte D' Ouro last weekend. As much fun as it was, it certainly took it out of me. Wednesday up till 2am, then got into my MX 5 and drove all the way to Mozam, only to arrive at lunch time, settle in and meet the gang at the bar! Shez. By Sunday I could honestly claim that it had hardly been a relaxing weekend. Actually, Mazz noted that she was looking for a quiet weekend, something that was surely not part of the arrangement when going on a big diiving social. The diving was brilliant however!!!

The "Little Building" project is nearly getting there. Damn, the quality of workmanship in this country is poor. Actuall, it should be classified as unacceptably poor... but what to do when you need a job done and are hardly in a position to do it yourself??? Whew, at least I got a roof now and it looks half complete. now time to get everything else done!! The doors are in, now the ceiling boards, mezzanine, then plastering, plumbling, kitchen, electrics, floors .... eish, and more.
