17 de agosto brief updateCharles is currently out of town, Bergen didnt return my call, Michaels got an assignment to finish, Frank is en route to a work project out in the stix, and I got caught up in a dinner while having had comps to the Wonderboom gig tonight at Tanzcafe. Maybe another time, seems it was too short notice even though this band should be getting my support.
Anyway, got some pics today of the guys making progress on Little Building. Since the SGM a few things have been happening, the roofs come off and at last we are able to modify the external structure. The windows have come out in an attempt to prepare for the new aluminum frames.
Tomorrows going to be a long day, traders hassling me to add a "gamma" component to the risk reports. They want to run the delta risk per industry sector (similar to a fund) and manage the risk more like a prop desk than simply tracking client positions. Lets see what we can do. I got an ear full when they proposed more advanced mechansims of trading, or perhaps using automated means of quoting pricing. I guess they could do something similar to my trixbox VoIP implementation @ Intdev. An example would be dialing sip:7777@pbx.intdev.co.za. We're not quite there yet but mainly cause of other reasons...
Started playing with ipMonitor to perform some server monitoring. Amazing how this software picks up on various services and starts monitoring them. In particular, a feature I find rather useful is the comparison between historical uptime and current values. This is particularly useful in finding out that one of my boxes' CPU is running at 48 degrees instead of below the threshold of 45 degrees etc. It works wonderfully in a managed network within a domain, and I'm sure to start using it for various other services.
K, night night. busy architectsBeen incredibly busy, hardly a gap again. Got some work projects keeping me busy, Felix is in Cape Town and im looking after Little Building at presented. We met with the architects Thorsten Deckler from 26'10 South and our engineer to finalise the alterations.
We finally got the special general meeting passed which requird 30 day notice to all tenants. Indeed, the Sectional Title law does have its nuances with regards to getting approval for these things, and is at times not as clear as it needs to be. An example is where the body corporate engages in legal consultation in order to clarify the processes, yet the laws do not clearly stipulate who picks up these costs. Other gripes of mine relate to the qualification of objections since individuals' concerns could be related to emotional issues such as privacy, appearance, purpose or related. This means that I could have the most amazing idea in the world, the best business opportunity to develop a revenue generating investment and a group of individuals objecting because they feel it inappropriate. How did major cities around the world get this deep, charming character with such beurocracy. Perhaps it requires more of an uncivilised approach to letting people do what they want, in order to better their surroundings ... its open for debate.
Now, builders are another issue but I dont have time to get into that. Have a look at the pic below of the newly constructed wall, elegantly slanted at a 5 degree angle. What on earth is that?! How could any (idiot) build such a wall without realising this?!? Anyway, this Piza resemblance was duly demolished and reconstructed... grrr, always gotta keep an eye on the builder.
Anyway, the trip to Canada has been postponed due to technicalities. Management wanted to get involved and noted that the project required Executive Sponsorship. Be it as it may, it simply means a delay and I hope to get stuck in with this new opportunitiy in the month to come.
Lets hope that these lead smoothly onto one another in order to sequence the Little Building, Intdev end-of-month, Canada and my bday... |
